Wash Against Waste Station Hire
The Wash Against Waste Station works hard every Sunday, helping Alphington Farmers Market stalls and market shoppers reduce single-use coffee cups and food containers. By providing a reusable alternative to single-use, which is washed and recirculated, we are able to divert approx 400 coffee cups (plus cups and plates) from landfill each Sunday.
How does it work?
Our market stalls serving drinks and hot food use reusable MFM coffee cups, plates, and bowls to serve market shoppers.
After enjoying their delicious hot food—be it a bowl of paella, a spring roll, coffee, chai, or juice—shoppers head to the wash station. There, they scrape any leftovers into the compost and place the used items in rinsing buckets. These are then sorted, run through the dishwasher, dried, and returned to the market stalls to be used again, and again, and again.
The Wash Against Waste station helps us minimise single-use takeaway containers at the Alphington Farmers Market, significantly reducing overall waste.
